Below are brief summaries of Michael's House Funds. Please see Programs or click on the fund name for more information.
Michael's House General Fund - donations are used to cover a variety of Michael's House Programs, including The Community Day Center and Ann's Shelter.
The Community Day Center is a place where our guests can feel safe, enjoy a wholesome meal, use facilities for hygiene, wash clothes, and create handcrafts to sell, get basic medical care. Ann's Shelter is an overnight facility for the most infirm who have no family to help; the elderly have a clean place to lay their heads and a warm breakfast in the morning.
Pension Fund - The Pension Fund seeks to establish a sustainable funding source (individual and institutional) to provide a steady monthly pension for many destitute elderly. One-time and recurring contributions can be made through Network for Good.
Farm Fund - Currently, there are three (3) farms; The Rice-Ryan Farm, The Grace Farm and Audrey's Farm where the elderly raise animals and plant crops to provide food for themselves and others in their elderly community. "It Takes A Village” is a designated project fund for the construction of rural homes for the homeless on our farms in Uganda. Read more about our project; "It Takes a Village" in our newsletters: November 2009 and January 2009.

Giving Circles
Starting a Giving Circle is easy; to begin, just get a commitment for a contribution from each member of the circle, collect monthly, and send a check to Michael's House Pension Fund. It's just that easy! It's all about helping ordinary people do extraordinary things. It's about empowering each other to respond to global needs in a very intimate and personal way.
The following are some creative ways to give:
- Max who is 11 years old and his 8 year old sister Grace are organizing a "Movie Evening" at their home for their peers. Entrance fees and profit from the sales of refreshments will go to support an elderly destitute person.
- Kathy, with daughters Christine and Emily, and friends Ann and Debra make crafts to sell at their Silver Spring church's Christmas Bazaar. Their proceeds provide aid to Michael‘s House.
- Vicki, a Montgomery County school bus driver is organizing a giving circle of coworkers and friends to pay pensions for several people.
- Donna, a Frederick County teacher, is organizing a group of fellow teachers to adopt and pay pensions for several elderly people.
- The workers at a Silver Spring KFC pledged a dollar a month to pay a pension for two women.
- John, a retired firefighter in Glasgow, Scotland, gives a part of his own pension each month.
- Ms. Christine, a Montgomery County school teacher and her class had a 'loose change' drive for the month of October to raise funds. They gave all their loose change at the end of each day and at the end of the month converted it to dollars!
- Marianne, a 15 year old student in L'Aigle, France is organizing a "Skip-a-Lunch" day each semester to adopt an elderly person.
- Bill and Elise, a retired couple on a very moderate income in Baltimore, have adopted a "Never-Spend a-Nickel" approach. They save all their nickels each month, usually about $25, to support other elderly who are less fortunate than they.
- A family in Beltsville celebrated their father's 77th birthday by each giving a check to Michael's House in his name. A simple solution to gift giving that thrilled their father!
